Car Show and Parade Highlight Hundred July 4th, Celebration

July 10, 2019
Wetzel Chronicle

Traveling the long winding road to the east end of Wetzel County for the Annual Fourth of July celebration at Hundred, I was expecting to hear some good music, eat some good food, watch a nice parade, take in a great car show and see some fantastic fireworks.

All worked out just as planned except for the last part as the grand finale of the evening had to be cancelled do to storms that moved through the area. However the day was a delight for this visitor as my wife and I enjoyed good conversation and learned a lot about the History of the Town. We watched as a nice crowd of people lined the parade route to take in the site of the local football team, including the newly formed middle school squad.

Several of the cars from the car show were in the parade and my favorite the red corvette really was a beauty. The fire trucks from several local departments were all shined up and looking ready to answer a call. Kids were racing for the candy as the politicians were trying hard to buy some votes, ha, ha. Wetzel County Sheriff's Department and Hundred's Police led the Parade with the sound of sirens ringing in the air. The local FFA club manned a float and the Lil Bert 4x4 was great to see. All in all there was a sense of excitement you can only find in small town America. That's one reason when Hundred puts on a parade I try to make it, whether it's 95 in July or 15 in December, the community makes you feel at home and comfortable.

Thanks to Hundred and all their volunteers for another great celebration of freedom.
