Former Wetzel County Office of Emergency Management Director Ed Sapp was honored recently as he received the John Tagg Memorial Emergency Manager of the Year award for 2018.

Sapp was honored for his successful coordination of the response to and recovery from the July 2017 floods that devastated Wetzel County, particularly the Town of Hundred.

He was also recognized for making critical after-action improvements following the 2016 Axiall Plant Chlorine release, implementing a new mass notification system for the county and purchasing warning sirens for the City of New Martinsville.

Furthermore, Sapp was acknowledged for securing funding for a new mobile command truck, following a 2016 hazardous materials incident in Littleton.

Sapp served Wetzel County for 30 years prior to his retirement.

Sapp’s award was named after John Tagg. Tagg was the director of the Wheeling-Ohio County Emergency Management Agency and passed away in 2009.
