Mourning The Loss of a Hero

September 12, 2018
Wetzel Chronicle

We were deeply saddened Sept. 8 to hear of the loss of Bert Anderson, Hundred Volunteer Fire Department Chief.

We had interacted with Chief Anderson several times; he always came to us about coverage of the annual mock accident, held at Hundred High School just prior to prom and graduation. The event was a collaborative effort of many local first response agencies. It was a huge importance to Chief Anderson, as he always had the community youth's safety in mind.

The new Hundred VFD building was also a big deal to Chief Anderson. We worked with him on stories about this endeavor as well.

It's obvious his community was important to Chief Anderson.

The loss of Chief Anderson is a loss to the Hundred VFD, the loss of the Hundred community, and frankly, it's a loss to all of us. The years of work and experience Chief Anderson has in first response is admirable. The passion he had for the well-being of his fellow human beings is even more-so.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those Chief Anderson has left behind. We are certain his legacy will never be forgotten.
