Local Family Battles Cancer, Keeps Faith In God in Hard Time

March 14, 2018
Wetzel Chronicle

Friends and loved ones of Jed Wright have come together to help the 30-year-old who is currently battling Hodgkins Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.

Jed is the husband of Samantha (Norris) Wright. Together, Jed and Samantha have a baby girl, Jeda.

According to Samantha's grandmother, Hundred resident Joy Kuhn, Jed's life depends on a bone marrow transplant. However, Jed cannot currently be a candidate because the cancer is still active.

"It is just heartbreaking," Kuhn said.

The Wrights currently reside in Mt. Morris, Pa. Samantha, a graduate of Hundred High School, lived in Wileyville, prior to marrying Jed, who worked at Blue Mountain for 10 years before he became ill. Jed is from Blacksville.

Jed's family and friends have adopted the slogan "JedStrong" and hold close the belief that God is greater than Cancer.

Several benefits are being planned to help offset the costs the Wright family have incurred during Jed's treatment.

A spaghetti dinner benefit is planned for April 14, 1-7 p.m. at the Truth Assembly Chapel, located at 10651 Mason-Dixon Highway, Burton. The dinner includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert and drink. The cost is $10 for adult and $5 for children 10 and under. A Yeti Tundra cooler, a rifle, and several themed baskets are slated to be raffled at the benefit. Tickets for the dinner are available at Heather's Country Florist in Hundred, Blue Mountain Inc. in Burton, and Office of Edward Jones, located in Waynesburg, Pa. Tickets will also be sold the night of the benefit.

A springtime-themed wreath, currently on display at the First Exchange bank in Hundred, is also being raffled. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5, and the raffle drawing will be March 24.

Also, an account has been set up at Union Bank. Deposits can be made to the "Jed Wright Benefit Account" at the Union Bank in Hundred. The address for the bank is 3924 Hornet Highway, or P.O. Box 810, Hundred, WV 26575.

Folks are reminded to follow the "JedStrong" Facebook account for further updates.

"My husband is my very best friend. His smile is contagious and his laughter is infectious," Samantha Wright has posted to the Facebook page.

Samantha noted that through her husband's battle against cancer, "he has yet to lose that contagious smile or bulletproof faith."

"We know that God is greater than anything this world can throw our way," Samantha said.
