Autumn Classic Opens Cross Country Season

Magnolia's Karina Patel kicked-off the 2017 cross country season with a solid 24:50.1, earning 31st place, while teammates Bre Barbera placed 36th with a time of 25:20.3 and Aubrey Hall 46th out of 100 female runners finished with a 25:40.6 time.

Paden City didn't participate in the first race of the season. However, the Tyler Consolidated Knights' Emma Paden was their top runner crossed the finish line at 25:30.9, good enough for 40th place.

Her teammates Jahni Duncan (27:41.3), Taylor Ebert (34:34.1) and Sydney Smith (36:45.0) followed, respectively.

Bridgeport placed first with 35 points, while Ripley finished second with 57 points, and St. Marys third had 70 points.

In the boys' race, Bridgeport made it a clean sweep, winning with 105 points, while Ritchie followed in second with 109 points, and Fairmont Senior placed third with 113 points. The Tyler Knights finished sixth with 163 points, while Magnolia didn't field enough runners for the team score.

The Eagles' lone runner was Austin Pylers (24:17.2). He finished 128th out of 165 runners.

Tyler freshman Spencer Corley finished in the top ten, placing sixth with a time of 17:57.7. Gavin Corley (18:55.2), Josh Frum (19:57.0), Creed Ammons (20:53.4), James Streets (20:53.9), Hadyn Brown (21:18.8), Jackson Kibbey (21:35.6) and Trey Keys (21:54.4).

The top male runner was Brady Gorrell of St. Marys with a remarkable time of 17:02.7, while Carter Lipscomb of Doddridge was runner-up at a time of 17:24.1, and Danah Phillips of Robert C. Bryd placed third at 17:29.7.

The Eagles and the Silver Knights will both be in action Aug. 26 in the Elizabeth S. Broughton Invitational in Marietta this Saturday.
