Clarksburg moves to resolve building code issues

July 20, 2014
Associated Press

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — Clarksburg officials are working to resolve issues with the city's code enforcement offices.

A proposed city ordinance would adopt the latest versions of 10 codes that make up the state building code. There also are provisions regarding enforcement of the state code, certification of code officers and building permits.

The West Virginia Fire Marshal's Office initiated a complaint last month alleging the city's building codes are unlawful. The complaint also alleges that code enforcement officers aren't certified and that the city targeted specific property owners.

Media outlets report that City Council approved the proposed ordinance's first reading last week. A final vote is set for Aug. 7.
