Estep Is Player Of Week

Track headlines the "Athlete of the Week," story as MHS high and long jumper Bailey Estep noses out fellow track teammates Kristen Massey, Jordan Delaney and Brooks Parsons as the week's winner.

Bailey Estep placed first in both the high and long jump in their first meet of the season in the Ryan Jobes Invitational, while helping their 4x100 and the 4X200 finish second and third, respectively. In a Bellaire meet, Estep placed first in the 100 meter dash, and also first in the high and long jump for quite a nice opening week in track.

Kristen Massey won the 300 meter hurdles in the Jobes Invitational, while helping their 4x400 win. She also helped their 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams finished second and third, respectively. In Bellaire, Massey finished second in the 100 meter dash, while finishing first once more in the 300 meter hurdles.

Jordan Delaney won the 3,200 meter run in the Jobes Invitational, while also helping the 4x400 meter relay team claim first place. She winning the 800 meter run as well as the 1,600 meter run in Bellaire.

Brooks Parsons, also had a nice first week in track. He won the 100 meter dash at the Jobes Invitational, while helping the 4x200 win first and their 4x100 second. He also scored in the high jump. In Bellaire, he won the high jump and helped the 4x100 and 4x200 win first place in both events.

In baseball the Eagles' freshman second baseman Jake Gamble singled twice, scoring two teammates, including the winning run in a 5-4 thriller against Cameron with a one-out suicide squeeze. He also singled in two runs and got the win in relief in a come-from-behind win over the Valley Lumberjacks.

In softball, the Paden City Wildcats Jenna Ferrebee singled twice and knocked in two runs in their win over Valley, and upped the margin to four RBIs with a pair of singles and a double in the 'Cats victory over Hundred.

During the Spring Sports Season, athletes that win Athlete of the Week can only win once during the regular season. Only athletes from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley can win the title. The student athletes are selected by the sports staff at the Wetzel Chronicle.
