Tennis Returns to MHS

March 22, 2017
Wetzel Chronicle

After a few years of no tennis at Magnolia High School, the Eagles will again hit the tennis courts this season.

Magnolia did have a team last season, but didn't start on time and only played a handful of junior varsity matches, with no home matches.

The big reason why tennis is returning is MHS Head Coach Jesse Robinson, who came to Magnolia from playing recreational tennis at West Virginia University.

She had a sign-up and 14 girls came out, with 10 of them freshmen last season.

Robinson, the school's physical education and health teacher, had 11 come out this spring, with one senior and one junior to start the season with, and five sophomores and four freshmen.

Coach Robinson's lone senior out is Hannah Fluharty, while returning their only junior in Logan Spencer. Other return players are Ashley Demarco, Bethany Brown, Whitney Yoho, Cearia Leek and Garylin Fletcher with any varsity tennis knowledge, while freshmen Hannah Fluharty, Clara Moore, Sierra Walker, Lara Smith and Raegan Hale are looking to compete for varsity playing time.
