Valley ‘Jills Chop Down Dragons At Cameron

The Valley Lumberjills used a 18-9 fourth quarter rally to break a 29 dead-lock, beating Cameron 47-38 on Dec. 16 at Cameron High School. The Valley Lumberjills' record improved to 4-1.

Kaitlyn Underwood paced the Lumberjills with a career-high 21 points, while Sophie Palmer followed with 13 points, six assists and six rebounds to lead Valley.

In addition, Rachel Baker added nine points, seven rebounds and a block, while Melanie Thomas and Emma Ueltschy each netted a basket. Cassidy West didn't score, but she contributed three rebounds, one assist and made a steal.

The Lumberjills are idle until Dec. 27 when they host Tyler Consolidated. They then face Paden City on Dec. 29. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.

Lumberjills Make Quick Work Of East Richland, 58-15

The Valley Lumberjills (3-0) outscored East Richland (2-2) 36-3 in the first half and never looked back in gaining a 58-15 victory, Dec. 12 in Pine Grove.

Valley raced out to a quick 17-1 lead after one period of play, while out-scoring their opponents, 19-2 in the second stanza, for a 36-3 advantage at the break.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first two periods, as the Lumberjills outscored Richland, 16-4 in the third period.

In the fourth period, East Richland outscored the Valley's bench, 8-6, for the 58-15 final.

Sophie Palmer led the Lumberjills in the scoring column, knocking down 23 points, that included a long range bonus bomb. She also added nine steals and dished out three assists, while teammate Melanie Thomas provided 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Rachel Baker provided eight markers, seven rebounds and made three steals, while Kaeleen Utt and Emma Ueltschy each sank a pair of two-point baskets. Utt paced the 'Jills with nine rebounds, while Ueltschy made three steals.

In addition, Jenna Dallison posted six points and pulled down three boards, while Chelsea Underwood contributed one charity basket, four steals and passed out three assists. Cassidy West didn't score, but she made four steals and passed out three assists. Jamie West also didn't score, but she passed out a game-high five assists.

Katie Hans and Josie Stephens each recorded six points to pace East Richland.
