Lady Eagles Claim AAA Title

The Magnolia Lady Blue Eagles finished second in the OVAC Class 3-A contest.

In the Girls OVAC Class 3-A, the Magnolia Lady Blue Eagles flexed its muscle early and often en route to claiming its first conference title since 1995, with 132 points and second overall to Morgantown with 138 points.

The Lady Pilots finished ninth overall and third in Class-A/AA with 68 points, while Valley and Hundred finished ninth in their class and 33rd overall with 18 points each, and Paden City didn’t score.

The Blue Eagles set the tone for the week during Monday and Wednesday’s action when they advanced to the championship day in 14 of the 18 events. They took it a step farther, claiming first place in their class in six events.

“We knew it would be tough because Steubenville Central and Buckeye Trail both have good teams,” Magnolia Head Coach Mike Harwick said. “We were runner-up last year, but we didn’t game plan real well. We sat down and really looked at all of the stats from the other teams and planned how to get points. But still, the credit goes to the girls because they came out and performed.”

Blue Eagle junior high-jumper Bailey Estep set the tone for the Blue Eagles, winning the long jump (16-6) and high jump (5-4), while on the track, it was more of the same for the Lady Eagles. They would extended their lead thanks to a victory in the 4×8 with the team of Breanna Barbera, Rachel Arbogast, Jordan Delaney and Bri Ritz running eight laps in 10:12.05.

Ritz posted the first individual win for the Blue Eagles in the 400 meter sprints in 62.20, while junior teammate Kristen Massey won the 300 meter low hurdles with a time of 51.34. The Eagles Massey, Arbogast, Cedar Sands and Estep also soared in the shuttles, winning with a time of 1:11.44.

The Lady Pilots Zoey Miller leap of 14-8 got the party started, while Abby Caldwell winning the 100 meter dash in 12.66 and the 300 meter low hurdles in a meet time of 45.88.

The Valley Lumberjills Rachel Baker would win the high-jump event with a leap of 4-10, while teaming with Rebecca Gill, Sophie Palmer and Erin Brown in the shuttles for second place in a time of 1:10.19.

The Blue Eagles Anna Zills finished third in the shot-put with a heave of 33-05, while her teammate Mandi Theodoro finished fourth in the pole-vault at 7′.

The Hornets Katherine Henderson had a productive first OVAC Meet, placing second in the high-jump at 4-8, while the Pilots Macey Ladyga and the Hornets Emily Metz finished third and fourth respectively, with each making the jump at 4-4.

Brooks Parsons won the 4oo meter sprints with a time of 50.84.

The Blue Eagles Alayna Cline finished a spot behind teammate Estep in the high-jump in Class-3A at 4-10, while Cedar Sands finished second in the 100 meter hurdles at 18.32.

The Pilots Abby Caldwell placed second in Class-A in the 100 meter hurdles, while teammates Zoey Miller, Jessica Karpacs, Kyndra Earley and Lauren Flannery finished third in the 4×200 meter relay event.

The Blue Eagle 4×200 meter relay team of Kristen Massey, Alayna Cline, Sofia Herrick and Bailey Estep finished third with a time of 1:54.91 in Class-3A. Teammates Jordan Delaney (5:23.03) and Bri Ritz (6:33.89) finished second and third, respectively in the 1,600 meter run, and Rachel Arbogast finished third in the 300 meter hurdles at 52.85.

Jessica Karpacs, Zoey Miller, Kyndra Earley and Lauren Flannery finished in third place in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 53.81.

Bri Ritz of Magnolia finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:43.51, while teammate Jordan Delaney placed second in the 3,200 meter run at 12:40.43. The Blue Eagles 4×400 meter team of Sofia Herrick, Breanna Barbera, Mandi Theodoro and Rachel Arbogast placed third in the 4×400 meter relay at 4:33.55.

The Pilots Abby Caldwell placed third in the 200 meter dash at 27.60, while Jessica Karpacs, Kyndra Earley, Hannah Straub and Lauren Flannery placed third in the OVAC Class-A/AA in a time of 4:32.40.

MHS Boys Capture Fourth In Class AAA

The OVAC Boys track championships are in the history books as the Magnolia boys finished fourth in Class-AAA, River finished fourth in Class-A/AA, Valley fifth, Paden City sixth and Hundred seventh.

In Class-1A, the Paden City shuttle team of Jacob Pierce, Cade Myers, Logan Carroll and Deven Price set a class record in the hurdle relay with a time of 61.57, while the Lumberjacks Tucker Cain won the high jump a 6-4. The Hundred Hornets Aaron Kolat won the discus title with a twirl of 129-11, while the Pilots Lukas Isaly won the 300 intermediate hurdles with a time of 40.97, which set a conference record.

In the OVAC Class-3A, the Eagles Cole McGee captured the high jump at 5-8, while teammate Brooks Parsons won the 4oo meter sprints with a time of 50.84. Also, the Eagles Jared Kacor won the 300 intermediate hurdles with a time of 40.98, while helping his shuttle team of McGee, Jack Booth and Riley Nice win with a time of 62.23. Kacor also teamed with Nice, Booth and Parsons in the 4×400 meter relay event with a solid time of 3:31.88.

Cain also placed second in the long-jump at 21′ and the Wildcats Zach Yeater third with a jump of 20-5, while Cain finished third in the discus with a throw of 123-7.

Jack Booth finished second in the Class-3A long-jump at 19-6, as well as the Wildcats Deven Price in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.57.

The River 4×200 meter relay team of Brandon Carpenter, Braden Whetsell, Parker Caretti and Case Brown finished second with a time of 1:36.72. Carpenter, also finished third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.0 flat, while teammate Joey Flannery finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:30.13.

In the 4×400 meter relay meet the River team of Aiden Taylor, Chase Brown, Lukas Isaly and Joey Flannery settled for second at 3:52.99.
