US funds of more than $6m OKd for W.Va. Head Start

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — More than $6 million in federal funding is heading to 11 West Virginia counties for early childhood programs.

The $6.2 million in federal support is for Head Start programs run by the AFL-CIO Appalachian Council. The program provides services to children and families in the following counties: Boone, Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Jackson, Pleasants, Putnam, Roane, Tyler, Wirt and Wood.

The Head Start program provides nutritional, educational assistance and more for children from families with limited resources.

The funding was announced by U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller.
