Fugitives Caught In New Martinsville

NEW?MARTINSVILLE?- Two fugitives from justice are behind bars after a collaborative effort from local law enforcement agencies the morning of Friday, Jan. 15.

New Martinsville Police Department, Wetzel County Sheriff's Office, and Paden City Police Department issued fugitive from justice warrants on a male suspect from Alabama and a female suspect from Mississippi, both of whom were staying at the Amerihost Inn in New Martinsville.

According to NMPD, the suspects, Willie Madison Stafford, 19, and Ethan Caleb Stanford, 24, were both wanted for burglary. The duo had stolen over $260,000; Mississippi authorities had recovered $130,000 of the stolen money.

Local law enforcement officers recovered marijuana, approximately $5,000 in cash, and a loaded weapon from the Amerihost Inn room where Willie Stafford and Ethan Caleb Stanford were staying.

Inside the suspects' room, officers found marijuana, baggies, approximately $5,000 in cash and a loaded weapon, later found to be stolen as well.

Both individuals are lodged in Northern Regional Jail waiting extradition to Mississippi.

According to NMPD, law enforcement officers involved in the bust included NMPD Police Chief Tim Cecil, Patrolman Courtney South, and Patrolman Brad Mason, along with WCSO Sheriff John Brookover, Chief Deputy Mike Koontz, and Deputies Rob Hayes and Randy Adams. Acting Chief Timothy Shreves from the Paden City Police Department also assisted with the execution of the warrant.

"It was good police work on the part of Patrolman Mason and Patrolman South," Wetzel County Chief Deputy Koontz said of the bust.

"These results are what can happen with teamwork among departments," he added.
