Kudos to Church For Honoring Our Officers

October 14, 2015
Wetzel Chronicle

The First Christian Church in New Martinsville recently held its inaugural dinner in appreciation of law enforcement officers. This event was about more than just honoring officers. It was about reaching out and making a connection. This congregation went above and beyond to make the officers feel welcomed and proud to be an officer.

Deputy Sheriff Mike Koontz of the Wetzel County Sheriff's Office said it best when he said that a dinner like this, where citizens show their appreciation, makes the officers feel pride for work they do. In addition to showing respect and support for law enforcement, this event allowed the citizens and the officers alike to discuss their needs and concerns.

We hope to see more people, organizations and groups reaching out to officers, first responders and dispatchers in such a way. Hosting a dinner is a small act with a huge impact on these men and women who have chosen to serve the community in a very difficult role.
