Great to See Community Backing Police Department

September 29, 2015
Wetzel Chronicle

Police officers have a difficult jobs with their daily duties, but having community support and backing can often times make their jobs easier. In the past few weeks, several people have made donations to local police departments in Tyler and Wetzel Counties. Even if some of these donations are small, they have not gone unnoticed.

These contributions have not been made for the recognition, but for the betterment of the police departments, and to ensure the officers come home to their families.

Some of the recent donations include bulletproof vests for the New Martinsville Police Department, which were made possible by the New Martinsville Moose Lodge 931. These vests are crucial for the safety and protection of the officers. New Martinsville has also received a new body camera, that also doubles as a dash cam, courtesy of Bruce Johnson, the owner of Johnson Investigations and Security System Unlimited. Det. Donnie Harris, who also serves as the K-9 officer, received an anonymous donation for a heat sensing unit that will monitor the temperature inside his cruiser for his dog's safety.

Sistersville and Paden City Police Departments have received monetary donations for their proposed Shop With A Cop event. Also in Paden City, nine-year-old Wesley Schultz made a donation of stuffed animals on his birthday for officers to hand out to kids. These thoughtful donations will not only aid our officers in their day to day duties, but will enable them to give back to the communities in which they live and serve.
