Phillips Couple Marks 65th Anniversary

Wetzel County natives Harold (Pete) and Ruth Phillips, now living in St. Cloud, Fla., recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary at Neptune Baptist Church, Kissimmee, Fla., at a luncheon hosted by their daughters, Patricia Robinson of Iuka, Ms.; Debra Davis of St. Cloud, Fla., and Sharon Jones of Charleston, W.Va. The gospel ministry, Great Day, a family group from Apoka, Fla., gave a concert following the lunch.

Pete and Ruth were married at the First Baptist Church, Wichita Falls, Texas, on Sept. 16, 1949, where Pete was attending an Air Force Frame and Engine School.

They are the parents of Patricia (Johnny) Robinson of Iuka, Ms.; Debra (Sam) Davis of St. Cloud, Fla., and Sharon (Rick) of Charleston, W.Va. They have one granddaughter, Tina Boren of Wasilla, Alaska; two grandsons, Bryan (Cassie) Robinson of Iuka, Ms., and Gregory Jones, currently working toward his Master's Degree at West Virginia University; three great-grandsons, Warren Simpson and Austin Boren of Wasilla, Alaska, and Dylan Robinson of Iuka, Ms.

Harold (Pete) and Ruth Phillips

Pete was born at Littleton and Ruth at Hastings. Pete served in the United States Marine Corps in WWII and retired after 20 years military service from the United States Air Force. They returned to New Martinsville and Pete retired from PPG Industries, Natrium. Ruth worked as an executive secretary at Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, and retired after 20 years. They moved to St. Cloud, Fla., in 1998, where they currently live.
