God Bless Our Veterans

November 12, 2014
Wetzel Chronicle

It's always difficult to find the words to adequately express our thankfulness for our men and women in uniform-the protectors of this great nation of ours. Attending Veterans Day assemblies at the schools, the feeling of this inadequacy increases when surrounded by so many heroic men and women. Our eyes fill with tears and our hearts swell with pride; "Thank You" just never seems like enough.

Corporal Ian Miller of the United States Marine Corps, who has just finished a second deployment overseas, and World War II Veteran George Burdette are both different in many ways, yet they share an unbreakable bond in that they have both been willing to pay the ultimate price. They both possess the strength and courage and unfailing love of a country that is necessary to be a member of the United States Military.

Perhaps the words to the song that "Singing George" sang at Monday's Paden City High School Veterans Day program says it best: "From the mountains, to the prairies, To the oceans, white with foam . . . God Bless America, My home sweet home . . . "

And may God always bless our veterans and those who serve our country . . .
