Hundred Council Agrees To Pay For Field Paint

July 30, 2014

Hundred Town Council agreed July 21 to pay approximately $1,400 for paint for the Hundred High School football field during the 2014 season.

Coach Rex Rush had approached council about the request, saying their account had been drained, so the club was starting from scratch. In the past council had either funded the need or paid at least half of the expenditure. However, last year the town did not contribute to the paint; it had been donated.

While Mayor Charles Sine said $1,400 seemed like a lot for paint, Rush explained that it must be painted for each of the five scheduled home games. Each game requires five cases of white, two blue, and one red.

The athletic field, used for both football and baseball/softball seasons, is owned by the city, but rented by the Wetzel County Board of Education. Recorder Sherry Hayes said the board's annual payment of $9,000 should be coming soon. Also, the park accounts currently contain $3,093 in savings and $854 in the lease account.

Rush said he hopes to also get some new fencing at the field after football season. He thinks if they can get the materials, he can get enough volunteers to install it.

To that request Councilwoman Johanna Lemasters said, "We don't have any extra money."

Rush said they had previously paid half from the facilities account for such improvements, but it was drained.

He will be asking the board for some money for improvements at the field, as he said they have done for some other high schools in the county. "Hopefully they can swing a little to us too," said Rush.
