RHS Names Tops Students

The River High School Class of 2014 will hold its graduation ceremony on May 24 at 2 p.m. on Flannery Field. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the R. L. Potts Gymnasium. The class cordially invites parents, grandparents, family members, and friends to celebrate this joyous occasion with them.

This year's Valedictorian is Jason Richard Miller. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Bradley K. Miller of Sardis. Jason is president of the National Honor Society, a Hugh O'Brian Ambassador, Buckeye Boys State Delegate, Americanism Post, county and district winner, four-year Kiwanis Scholar, Franklin B. Walter Scholar, member of the Chain Reaction Contraption Team, yearbook editor, Senior Class officer, French club president, and River Sports columnist for the Monroe County Beacon, as well as member of the Civics Challenge and Quiz Bowl Champion Teams. Jason, an avid golfer, lettered four years and served as captain his junior and senior years. He has volunteered for Wetzel County Hospital, the Wheeling Symphony as a Junior Usher, and was a member of the Wheeling Symphony Auxiliary Viennese Winter Cotillion. Jason plans on attending Marietta College in the fall, majoring in chemistry with an emphasis in pre-medicine.

The Vocational Valedictorian is David Evan Tucker. He is the son of David and Helena Tucker of Clarington. He is a member of the Vocational Honor Society.

Ryan Ludolph serves as the Salutatorian for the Class of 2014. He is the son of Randy and Patty Ludolph of Sardis. Ryan is member of the National Honor Society, Buckeye Boys State, Kiwanis Scholar, Academic Achiever, Quiz Bowl, Civics Challenge, JETS, and Spanish Club. Ryan is also a letterman in cross country, basketball, track and field, and golf. He is a member of the Sardis United Methodist Church. Ryan plans to attend Ohio University in the fall to major in Chemical Engineering.

Eric Dierkes, the son of Kelly and Tabitha Dierkes of Woodsfield will deliver the welcome speech. He is graduating with honors and is a member of the National Honor Society, Buckeye Boys State Delegate, Civic Challenge Team, Quiz Bowl, JETS, and Student Council. Eric is also a four-year letterman in baseball and basketball. Following graduation he plans on attending Ohio Northern University and major in Pharmacy.

Gabriella Goudy will be introducing the special guests at the graduation ceremony. She is the daughter of Garren and Hollee Goudy of Powhatan Point. Gabby is graduating with honors and is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Art Club, Ski Club, and was a Buckeye Girls State Delegate. Gabby is a proud member of the RHS softball, basketball, and cross country team lettering in all three sports. She plans on attending Bethany College and majoring in Biology and playing on the women's softball team.

Rebecca Stewart, the daughter of Harry and Lori Stewart of Powhatan Point, will give the invocation. Rebecca is a member of National Honor Society, Academic Achiever, Kiwanis Scholar, Top of the Class, Buckeye Girls State Delegate, French club, Fellowship of Christian Students Club, and is a member of the Jacobsburg Bible Church. She is also lettered four years in cheering and cross country and lettered three years in track and field. She will be graduating with honors. Rebecca plans on attending Ohio University Eastern and majoring in Exercise Physiology.

Makenna Collins, the daughter of David and Tonya Collins of Sardis, will deliver the benediction. She is a member of National Honor Society, Art Club, Executive Committee, and has been an Academic Achiever. Makenna was a 2012 Hugh O'Brian Ambassador and has lettered four years in cross country and three years in track. She is an active member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church of Brownsville. Following graduation, she plans on attending Cedarville University and majoring in English education.

Class President Landyn Ramsay will lead the class in and lead the turning of the tassels during the ceremony. Landyn is the daughter of Michael and Kenda Ramsay of Powhatan Point.
