Speedway Test n’ Tune Pushed Back

April 2, 2014
Wetzel Chronicle

With Mother Nature throwing the first caution flag of the 2014 season, the Hometown Racing Association continues to prep for the highly anticipated 40th Anniversary campaign. With cool, winter like temps and a rainy weekend forecast, the scheduled Test n' Tune set for Saturday, March 29, has been pushed back to Wednesday Night, April 2, from 6-10 p.m.

General admission is FREE while pit admission is priced at $15. A rare mid-week Wednesday night open practice will give eager racers a tune-up before kicking off the 2014 season in earnest on Saturday night April 5.

The Chase to the Championship will see the area's finest racers converge on the Middlebourne oval with championship dreams and the season's first checkered flag in sight.

Year after year, the talented Tyler County track regulars - some of the toughest in the nation - battle weekly at the region's most competitive speedway for a chance to be heralded as a Tyler County Speedway track champion.

Looking to defend 2013 titles include cagey veteran Butch McGill, FASTRAK Northeast Champion Kyle Thomas, Mike "Bird" Wilson in the popular Modified division, Ohio's Josh Baldwin and EDGE Hotmod Champion Chad Smith and the "Little Iceman" Jacob Ice.

With typical early season cool temps still lingering, a fan-friendly gesture of starting an hour earlier to get fans back home at a reasonable time is being implemented by track management.

Gates will open at 3 p.m., with hotlaps and qualifying starting at 6 p.m. and racing getting underway an hour later. General admission is priced at just $10, children 10 and under free while entry into the pits is $30.
