Lady Pilots Loaded

March 26, 2014
Wetzel Chronicle

After losing a 4-3 extra-inning sectional finale to Shadyside, Pilot Head Softball Coach Dave Wright will look to turn the tables this season, with a mixture of old and new players.

Wright will try to mesh together three returning senior lettermen mixed in with five outstanding juniors and three sophomores to go along with six freshmen.

For-year starter Gabby Goudy will be on the mound with backup starter Rosey Romick and third-year starter Mackenzie Marshall will be their batterymate. Add two-time all-state starter and RBI machine Haylee Bowers at shortstop, and three-year starter Monica Curtis in at second base, one understands why Wright is beaming with excitement in the pre-season.

But that's not all at River. Add three-year track speedster Landyn Ramsay in the outfield, along with another speedster, Madison Taylor, and two-year starter Mikayla Cieszeski at first base, the sky is the limit.

Wright still has junior lettermen Sierra Lancaster and Zoe Rush back, along with sophomore letter-winner Elizabeth Bremenkamp to team with freshmen Emelie Heater, Brissa Marshall, Bailey Caldwell, Lexi Piatt, Sara Kinsey and Madison Huffman.

Piatt will back up Heater, who looks to fill the vacancy at third base left by the graduated power hitting Rachael Hutchison, while also backing up the outfield along with Kinsey and Huffman. Brissa Marshall and Caldwell are both versatile players who will see time in the infield, as well as the outfield. In addition, Caldwell will see some time in the circle.

The Lady Pilots will open the season hosting a double-header with Linsly at 1 p.m. March 29, and a single game with county rival Monroe Central at 5 p.m. March 31.
