Judge Denies Bond Reduction

March 26, 2014
BY LAUREN MATTHEWS - Staff Writer , Wetzel Chronicle

A motion for reduction in bond was denied March 14 in Wetzel County Circuit Court by the Honorable Judge David W. Hummel.

Michael Scott Watson, 23, of Littleton, alongside Attorney Justin Craft, was denied reduction in bond from $20,000 to $10,000. Craft argued that his client had showed up at every court hearing and that the defense believed $20,000 cash to be unreasonable. Watson's appearance in circuit court was bound over from a preliminary hearing in magistrate court.

However, Prosecuting Attorney Timothy Haught argued against the move, stating, "You are aware of Mr. Watson's history." Furthermore, Haught added, "I don't think a community needs to be worried."

Hummel appeared to agree with the prosecution, stating, "Bond is to secure the attendance of the defendant and the community."
