Hornets A Little Too Late

Three Hundred Hornets scored in double figures and outscored Hannan 28-17 in the final period, but fell, 90-70 in HIT semifinal action Feb. 8 inside the Hornets Nest.

Hundred fell behind 27-12 in the opening period and saw themselves down 46-26 at the break. However, the visitors responded with a 27-16 run in the third before the 28-point surge by the Hornets that came just a little too late.

Danny Stewart led the way offensively for the Hornets with 24 markers, while making four steals, hauling in four rebounds and canning 7-8 free throws.

Hunter Goddard followed Stewart with 16 points, including three baskets from beyond the arc. He also grabbed four rebounds and swiped three basketballs. Holden Moore sank 13 points, pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, made two steals and dished out three assists.

In addition, Andrew King netted eight markers, while Ethan Umstead tallied four points, Brandon White sank a bonus bomb and Logan Moore drained a deuce.

“I’m so proud of my guys, They played their best game of the year. Other than getting beat down the floor,” said Hundred Head Coach Brian Bartlett. “We played well. It was our biggest offensive production of the year.”

Hundred will play Montcalm in Summersville Friday at 5 p.m. in the H.I.T. finale.

In the junior varsity tilt, Hundred ran into a buzzsaw, losing 64-17. Greg Stewart paced the Hornets with six markers, while Logan Moore and Devon Kimble each netting three markers. Joe Mars and Danny Kolat each recorded a deuce, while Derek Crihfield sank a free throw.
