Courthouse Employees Will Attend Training

By Staff | Feb 5, 2014

Wetzel County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Mike Koontz reported to commissioners Tuesday concerning a preventative security training that will be held for all courthouse employees on March 27.

The training will be held in the courtroom and will be split up into two separate training groups to ensure the courthouse will stay open. Koontz stated the one-and-a-half hour training will be administered by Martin Kochell, a senior investigator of Dominion Resource’s Security Investigations. Kochell is a retired police officer.

The sheriff’s department hopes to have a follow up training in the future, as they have sent Deputy Donald Bordenkircher to be a trainer in this field.

Koontz told the commission that they would not be responsible for any expenses, unless they wish to provide refreshments.

In another matter, the commission approved of the $175,000 award given to them so far by the state’s Small Cities Block Grant funds. This award will go toward the complete engineering design and required administrative services for the Hundred/Little Public Service District Rush Run waterline extension project. The total award amount is $1,500,000. The remaining $1,325,000 will be given based on progress made.
