Eagles Crown Silver Knights

By Staff | Dec 31, 2013

Magnolia’s Spencer Campbell takes it to the hole and scores two of his team’s 93 points to help beat Tyler Consolidated 93-34 in boys’ basketball action Friday night inside MHS HammerDome.

The Magnolia Boys’ Basketball Team used a stifling defense to limit Tyler Consolidated to single digits most of the game Dec. 17 and emerged with a homestanding 93-34 victory over the Silver Knights. In addition, the Eagles scored more than 20 points in all but the final stanza to secure the win.

Spencer Campbell and Preston Boswell shared 50 points, including five baskets from beyond the arc, to pace nine Blue Eagle scorers. Zach Wilhoite tacked on 11 points in limited action, while Dylan Shimp contributed nine markers off the bench, including a pair of threeballs. Derrick Blain tallied six markers in his first varsity start, including a basket from downtown.

Additionally, Mitch Winters and Kyle Ritz each netted six markers, while Chase Miller and Eric Smith each tacked on a deuce. Boswell also added 10 steals to go with his 25 points to give him his first double-double of the season. Jace Reed sank three bonus bombs to pace the Knights with 10 points.

After a rocky season start that saw the Eagles lose their first three games, Magnolia will try to get its second win of the season when it takes on the River Pilots at R.L. Potts Gymnasium Jan. 4 with the jayvee game tipping off at 6 p.m.
