Wildcats Beat Trinity, Clay-Battelle And Park

Sydney Blatt scored 17 and 15 points to help Paden City win against Trinity in a tri match Oct. 16 at Clay-Battelle. Blatt’s points included nine service aces in a regular-season match.

In sets with Trinity, Blatt served up four aces in her 17 point- performance, while Graeson Baker netted 11 points, three aces and made nine sets in a 25-19 and 25-9 two-set victory. Taylor Cosper followed with eight points and 12 assists on 34 sets, while Megan Pierce tacked on five points and blasted a game-high six kills. In addition, Myah Charkawi tallied five points and Haley Hizer smacked three kills while scoring four points.

In the match with the Lady Cee-Bees, five girls scored in double figures in a three-set, 25-20, 25-27 and 25-13 victory for their 16th win of the season.

Charkawi netted a team-high 16 points, while Baker served up 15 points. Blatt was a force at the net making seven kills, while serving up five aces in a 14-point performance. Hizer and Cosper each recorded 11 points, with Taylor adding 72 sets.

Paden City picked up a huge win when they knocked off OVAC Class-5A Wheeling Park in the best of three matches Thursday in Bob Burton Gymnasium.

The Lady Wildcats jumped on the powerful Patriots from the get-go and never looked back, winning 25-18. However, the excitement didn’t last long, as Park flexed their muscles and won easily, 6-25 setting up the third and final set.

If you were not a volleyball enthusiast, you would be in this set, where the two teams went after each other like it was a heavyweight title fight. One team would take the lead, then the other, with neither team gaining more than a three-point advantage throughout.

The excitement throughout the set woke up the dead and brought stragglers in who were passing by the high school to see what was going on with all the noise midway through the final match.

By the time the set hit 25 on the scoreboard, both teams were knotted up. After breaking serve to get the lead 26-25, a long volley with each team making outstanding saves and even better digs and blocked shots, it would be Paden City to make the ball hit the floor on the Park side to gain the nod, sending the Wildcat girls floating in air with joy.

Cosper and Pierce each tallied 13 points to lead the Lady ‘Cats, while Baker followed with nine markers and a team-high seven kills. Cosper would add 21 assists on 64 sets, while Pierce blasted five kills. In addition, Blatt and Charkawi each served up eight points, while Hizer and added seven points and belted five kills.

In the final match of a tri with Park and Wood County Christian, it was Wood Country beating Paden City in two straight sets, 25-9 and 25-13.

Pierce led the Wildcat charge with six markers, while Baker and Charkawi each serving up four points. In addition, Cosper and Blatt each recorded three points, while Hizer added two. Cosper would make 12 assists on 49 sets, while Pierce belted six kills and Hizer and Baker had four and three kills, respectively.
