Autumnfest Will Be Held At Wetzel 4-H Camp

One year into its second decade, Wetzel County’s Autumnfest, with its crafts, apple butter, apple cider, and other seasonal favorites, is sure to get you and your family excited about the crisp, cool, and colorful season of fall this weekend, Oct. 11-13, at the Wetzel County 4-H Camp.

New this year is a goat show, which is currently being organized but is sure to be a hit! Also new this year, is the Country Store drawings. This event features items donated from Wetzel County merchants. People can buy tickets to place into the bag beside their desired item and hope they will be the lucky draw!

The annual festival kicks off Friday, 9 a.m. sharp, with a huge health fair offering free screenings at the Mollohan Center. At 10 a.m., all contest items are due. This includes decorated pumpkins, scarecrows, carved pumpkins, gourd displays, and apple pies for the apple pie contest. Whether you are an artist or a baker, your talents just might be recognized! An award of $25 will be given to the best looking pie, and another $25 will be bestowed upon the owner of the best tasting pie.

Lunch will be served at noon at the Mollohan Center courtesy of New Martinsville Center, Genesis Health Care. The meal is free for anyone over the age of 55, others can buy lunch for $3 at the door. They will also have lots of door prizes and giveaways. Musical entertainment will kick off at 1 p.m. with Pat Henderson and the Konnection Singers. If you cannot make the noon lunch date and your stomach starts rumbling again, have no fear. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m., by the Shortline Lions Club. Country Store drawings and a 50/50 drawing will take place at 5:30 p.m., and Crossroads Band will provide more musical entertainment at 6:30 p.m.

The fun fall festivities will continue Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. with a horse shoe pitch, tractor show, and gas engine show. Those wishing to show off their corn hole skills will get such a chance after the horseshoe pitch. Stop by at the Mollohan Center at noon for lunch, prepared by the Short Line Lion’s Club, and then listen to the great entertainment sure to be provided by Ryan Ritchea at 12:30 p.m. Children’s activities will take place at 1 p.m. and Common Ground will provide more entertainment at 2 p.m. Entertainment for the rest of the day includes Tom and Carol Wriston at 3:30 p.m.; The Tharp Brothers at 6 p.m.; and Barbara Lynn and the Silver Eagle Band will wrap Saturday up at 8 p.m. Besides the musical entertainment, be sure to make a stop at the Mollohan Center at 5 p.m. for dinner by the Shortline Lion’s Club, which will be followed up by Country Store Drawings and a 50/50 raffle at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday’s entertainment starts at noon on Sunday with the Konnection singers; lunch by the Shortline Lion’s Club will take place at the same time in the Mollohan Center. Cinch and Euchre will also be played at noon.
