MHS Wins WesTest Challenge

October 9, 2013
Wetzel Chronicle

A bet between Magnolia and Paden City high schools came to fruition Monday.

Dependent upon which school had the highest WesTest scores for the test taken in May, the losing principal had to change their appearance. If PCHS failed to surpass MHS in scores, Principal Jay Salva agreed to shave his facial hair, wear Blue Eagle attire, and meet students at the doors of Magnolia, singing the Blue Eagle fight song. That is exactly what happened Monday.

If PCHS would have achieved higher scores than Magnolia, Principal Kathi Schmalz would be donning PCHS attire and Schmalz would dye her hair blonde.

As it turned out Schmalz agreed to go ahead with the dye job, with blue streaks nonetheless, if her students performed well on the test.
