A special public meeting addressing issues relative to the closure of New Martinsville's Brooklyn/Main Street bridge, will be held Oct. 1, 7 p.m., in the Wetzel County Courthouse's courtroom.
The meeting, held by Wetzel County Commissioners and CSX officials, will hopefully address concerns of the public, specifically Brookyln-area residents, relative to the bridge's closure.
The only way people have to travel to travel to and from that section of New Martinsville is across the railroad tracks, which are sometimes blocked for extended periods of time. The bridge is not expected to be navigable until July or August 2014. There is an emergency plan in place. The bridge is blocked by a gate to which emergency personnel have a key. In the event that there was an emergency in the isolated area and a train was blocking the land entrance, they can open the gate and cross the bridge.
