Sheriff Says A Truck Would Help Department

July 31, 2013
BY LAUREN RIGGS - Staff Writer (reporter@wetzelchronicle.com) , Wetzel Chronicle

Wetzel County Sheriff John Brookover, along with Chief Deputy Mike Koontz, appeared before the Wetzel County Commission Tuesday morning to inquire about possibly purchasing a truck in the future for the sheriff's department, specifically a Ford F-150 or a Chevy Tahoe.

The vehicle would be used for especially rough travel in the county, as well as evidence collection. "There's been so many times we've been out and collected evidence . . . if someone stole a four-wheeler or something like that, we had to call towing." The commission recommended that Koontz and Brookover get a figure on a specific vehicle they would like and return at at future meeting for possible approval.

In another matter, the county's chief probation officer, John D. Lantz, and the commission discussed the county's contract with TyCo Integrated Security. Contractual negotiations are still ongoing between the commission and TyCo. The commission is looking to purchase some new security equipment, as well as enter into a reasonably priced maintenance agreement.
