Morris Tops Valley’s Grads
Ruby Morris was Valley High School’s Class of 2013 valedictorian while Sophia Rose Adams and Samantha Thomas served as co-salutatorians at the school’s graduation held May 24.
Morris is the daughter of Ronald and Ida Morris of Reader. She has been a member of the FFA all four years of high school, serving as treasurer her senior year. She has been a member of Raze, National Honor Society, French Honor Society, and Yearbook Staff. Morris participated in Wetzel County Math Field Day for three years and also received a Student of the Month Award her senior year.
She is a recipient of the Promise Scholarship, the Promise and Beyond Scholarship, the Short Line Lions Club Scholarship, the FFA Alumni Scholarship, and the Charles J McClain Presidential Finalist Scholarship at Fairmont State. Morris was also chosen to attend The National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine this summer in Houston, Texas. Her future plans include attending Fairmont State University as a member of the honors program where she will major in Biology. She plans on continuing her education after Fairmont State by attending medical school to become a pediatrician.
Co-Salutatorian Adams is the daughter of Michael and Tina Adams of Reader. She is the vice-president of the National Honors Society, president of the Pine Grove FFA Chapter, and a member of the French Honors Society, the Wetzel County Livestock Club, and the Eightmile Church of Christ. Adams is a Vandalia Scholar at West Virginia University and a West Virginia Promise Scholar. She is also a recipient of the Keith Highley Memorial Scholarship, Glenda Follett Memorial Scholarship, Jay Dee Dallison Scholarship, Pine Grove FFA Alumni Scholarship, National FFA Scholarship, Paul Henderson Scholarship, and the Upper Ohio Conservation District Scholarship.
Adams will attend West Virginia University’s Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design in the fall, majoring in Agriculture Education.
Co-Salutatorian Thomas is the daughter of Brian and Tracy Thomas. She is an active member of the Pine Grove FFA and competed in two national contests this year.
She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Sportsman’s Club, Wetzel County Livestock Club, and Silver Bebee’s 4-H Club. She has participated on the Math Field Day team and the girls’ varsity basketball team at Valley High School.
She is a recipient of the Promise scholarship, Mountaineer scholarship, Jay Dee Dallison Memorial scholarship, Paul Henderson Memorial scholarship, Pine Grove FFA Alumni scholarship, a National FFA scholarship, and an Upper Ohio Conservation District scholarship.
Thomas will attend West Virginia University and major in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources.
