The Pilots' Makenzie Marshall scored from third with two outs on a walk-off wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to knock off the Barnesville Lady Shamrocks 4-3 May 14 in the Ohio Division IV Semifinal in Shadyside.
Haylee Bowers singled in teammate Gabby Goudy in the first inning to get the party started. But, the Shamrocks evened things up in the fourth frame. However, the Lady Pilots fought right back in the bottom half, as Rachael Hutchison doubled in Bowers and Madi Taylor's infield single plated Hutchison to retake the lead, 3-1.
Three Pilot errors in the top of the fifth allowed the Lady 'Rocks to pull even once more, setting up the seventh inning walk-off Marshall tally.
With two outs in the bottom half of the seventh, Marshall drove a liner down the left field line for a triple. The Shamrocks walked Bowers intentionally for the second time. With the Pilots' Rosie Romick at the plate, the Barnesville hurler let a fastball go that got away from their catcher and rolled into their own dugout to send Marshall home for the winning run.
Monica Curtis got the win from the mound. She struck out two and walked one, while Taylor doubled, singled, and knocked in a run. Marshall tripled and Hutchison doubled in a run, while Bowers added an RBI single, and Romick an RBI.
The Lady Pilots quest for a Division title slipped by them with a 4-3 loss to Shadyside May 16 in Tiger Country.
River walked in Shadyside's winning run with the bases juiced and no-outs in the bottom of the eighth. Goudy took the loss from the mound. She struck out five and walked three, while Bowers paced the Pilots at the plate, knocking in a run. She also singled and doubled twice, while Taylor singled and doubled.
