Board Revises School Calendar
The Wetzel County Board of Education approved a revised school calendar for the rest of the year during their meeting Monday evening.
The Wetzel County School Calendar for the 2012-2013 will be revised as follows to make up for lost instructional days:
April 29, two-hour delay for preparation of the WESTEST 2
May 30, now an Instructional Day (ID), formerly an Outside School Environment (OS) day.
May 31, now an ID, formerly an OS Day.
June 3, an ID Day, formerly an Instructional Support and Enhancement (IS).
June 4, now an ID, formerly an OS Day.
June 5, now an ID, formerly an OS Day.
June 6, now an ID, formerly an OS Day. This is the last day for students.
June 7, now an IS, formerly an OS Day.
June 10 will remain a CE (Continuing Education) Day.
June 11 will remain a Preparation Day for the closing of school/last day of employment for 200-day employees.
Trips Requests:
Approval of request from Paul Huston, II, principal, for Paula Cumberledge, Melissa Higgins, Paul C. Huston, II, Brittany Jackson, Ted Sumner, Joni Yoho, and Dawn West, personnel at Long Drain School, to attend the International Reading Association Conference on April 20-22, in San Antonio, Texas. It is funded through LDS Title I funds.
Approval of request from John Jennings, Tracy Mason, and Leslie Lively, teachers at Short Line School, to attend the National Science Teachers Association Annual Conference on April 10-14, in San Antonio, Texas. It is funded through Short Line School Title I funds.
Approval of request from Pamela Christy and Marsha Stackpole, teachers at SLS, to attend the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Conference on April 16-20, in Denver, Colo. It is funded through SLS Title I funds.
Approval of request from Annie Hall, Agricultural Education Teacher, to take Samantha Thomas, JD Morris, Sophia Adams, and Rachel Wyatt, students of the Pine Grove FFA Chapter at Valley High School, to Oklahoma City, Okla., to attend the National Land and Range Judging Contest April 25-May 4. It is funded through the Pine Grove FFA Chapter and Pine Grove FFA Alumni.
Approval of request from Jade Spencer and Brenda Nolan, teachers, to take the SLS second grade class to the Plastic Block Museum in Bellaire, Ohio, on May 22. It is funded through student fees.
Request to Use School Facilities:
Approval of request from Paul Huston II, LDS principal, for Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council, Inc. to use LDS’s facilities for their Girl Scout program to hold meetings from March 19 until Jan. 1, 2014.
Lease Agreement:
New Martinsville Parks
and Recreation Commission
Land leased from the New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Commission on Hydro Drive for the use of softball and soccer fields beginning March 14 and expiring April 15, 2014, for $2,000.
Approval of the following Chaperones/ Volunteers for the 2012-2013
School Year:
Magnolia High School: Joni Morgan, Kim Melott, Chelsea Longwell
Bus Request:
Approval of request from Mindy Mall for two school buses and bus operators to transport approximately 125 4-H youth during 4-H Camp, to and from the Lewis Wetzel Pool, during the week of June 9-14. It is funded through the 4-H program.
West Virginia School Boards Association:
Approval to renew the WVSBA Membership Subscription and pay dues to the association for the school year July 1, 2013-June 30, 2014. Total amount due and payable by July 31, 2013, is $2,901.00.
Fund Raisers:
Per advisement of the board’s legal counsel, the superintendent recommended that the board approve the following groups/organizations to raise funds (monies) in the name of a particular school in Wetzel County: Valley High School, Valley High School Baseball Boosters
Release from Wetzel County Schools:
Approval of request from Scott and Leticia Wall for their daughter, Braeden Reese Wall, to be released from Wetzel County Schools (Paden City Elementary) to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2013-2014 school year.
