First Ramp Festival Slated

By Staff | Apr 17, 2013

The first annual Shortline Ramp Festival will be held April 20, beginning at 11 a.m., with a flag raising and singing of the National Anthem. The festival will go on until 2 p.m.

There will be a blessing of the bikes (motorcycles) at 1 p.m. All motorcyclists are invited and encouraged to attend. There will also be a ramp cook-off. Some of the ramp dishes that will be entered include ramp gravy, ramp biscuits, ramp corn bread, ramp soup, ramp spread, ramp potatoes, among others. Winners for the cook-off will be determined in three categories: individual, non-profit, and business. The ramp cook-off winners will be chosen by people’s choice, so there will be the opportunity to sample several ramp dishes. Samples will be sold for 25 cents each.

There will children’s games with prizes, a horseshoe contest, cornhole tournament, and musical entertainment by the Kinkade Sisters and Justin Bucher. Cruisers Unlimited will be doing a “cruise in” and invite others to join them.

There will be a raw ramp eating contest (who can eat the most in 60 seconds!).

The Pine Grove Senior Citizens group will be doing an indoor yard sale during the event. Hospice Care Corp. will have a booth doing health screenings.

Other scheduled vendors include Air Evac, WesBanco, Relay for Life, Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce, Shooters Saloon, Linda Goddard, Shortline Station, VHS Junior Class, Shortline School Eighth Grade Class, Food Pantry, Robyn Yeager, Jacksonburg Pitstop, Thirty-One, Scentsy, Origami Owl, as well as craft vendors and individual cook off entrants. (The organizers are still accepting booth and cook off registrations, so this list will likely grow.) Fresh ramps will be for sale.

Sponsors for this year’s event include Colonial Life, Shooters Saloon, Doug’s Trading Post, Palmer’s Funeral Home, and Shortline Home Improvement. The event is supported by the Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce and the Wetzel County Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as the Town of Pine Grove.
