Biggest Loser Run/Walk Heads To WV

By Staff | Mar 20, 2013

The Biggest Loser RunWalk heads to Charleston for a Get Fit, Get Ready 5K/10K race on June 29. From the first-time runner to the elite athlete, participants are encouraged to get off the couch and hit the pavement to gear up for an inspirational event.

“The City of Charleston is excited about the opportunity to host the Biggest Loser RunWalk in our capital city during FestivALL Charleston 2013,” said the Mayor Danny Jones. “We see this event as a marvelous opportunity to showcase all the great things about Charleston while we encourage healthier living in our community and beyond.”

Dan and Jackie Evans, organizers of The Biggest Loser RunWalk and contestants on “The Biggest Loser,” offer the RunWalk as a non-intimidating environment for all participants, with longer course time limits to allow runners and walkers to complete the race at their own pace.

The Biggest Loser RunWalk is known for the perks it gives to its participants, such as an exclusive Biggest Loser running shirt, finisher’s medal, free downloadable photos and much more.

The race will take place during FestivALL, a 10-day, family-friendly event that transforms the city into a work of art featuring 130 events and 360 performances including visual arts, music, theater, film and dance. The city partnered with the RunWalk to incorporate a health and fitness aspect to the event.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Biggest Loser RunWalk to Charleston,” said Alisa Bailey, president of the Charleston Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. “The show and the event are an inspiration to millions and its well-known brand will bolster the extraordinary FestivALL line-up.”

The race will start at 9 a.m. for the 5K/10K located at 31st St. and Virginia Ave. This race is a chip-timed race for participants tracking personal goals with special awards given to the top runners and walkers. This event will also include a kid’s one-mile race for ages 4-12 hosted by the Kids Fit Foundation.

After the race, participants, family and friends can celebrate and relax at the post-race concert featuring Nashville recording artist and former “Biggest Loser” contestant Dan Evans, while enjoying the visual masterpiece that surrounds them.
