Board Approves Routine Personnel Matters

The following routine and personnel matters were approved by the Wetzel County Board of Education Monday night, including the approval of the Transfer and Subsequent Assignment List for the 2013-2014 School Year.

Unlike those who were on the "RIF" list, (Reduction-In-Force), those on the transfer list are not without a job. Instead, they are being transferred to another school in the county. Those on the full-time list will remain full-time; whereas, those on the half-time list will go from a full-time position

Approval of the Transfer and Subsequent Assignment List for the 2013-2014 School Year as Recommended by the Superintendent:

Professional Personnel:

Full-Time: Lance L. Binegar, Rebecca K. Goff, Lori J. Helmick, Adam N. Lemon, Meredith L. Pilant, Nathan R. Tallman

To Half-Time: Christopher J. Amedro, Eric C. Mason

Service Personnel:

Full-Time: Kimberly S. Haught, Susan L. Paden

Retirement:

Stephen E. Rogalski, acceptance of retirement from position as Fourth Grade Teacher at New Martinsville School, effective June 30.

Resignations:

Vance E. Ash, acceptance of resignation from position as Assistant Girls' Softball Coach at Paden City High School, effective immediately.

Monica L. Morris, acceptance of resignation from position as Supervisory Teachers' Aide at WCCCF, effective immediately.

Professional Personnel:

Kandi L. Loy-Kay, approval for change in assignment from MI/LD/BD with Autism Teacher at Short Line School to MI/LD/BD with Autism Teacher at Paden City Elementary, effective the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year.

Extracurricular:

Megan M. Baird, approval for employment as Assistant Girls' Track Coach at Valley High School, effective the beginning of the 2012-2013 WVSSAC Season.

William S. Dakan, approval for employment as 7th/8th Grade Boys' Track Coach at Long Drain School, effective the beginning of the 2012-2013 WVSSAC Season. (non-certified)

Anita L. Estel, approval for employment as Assistant Girls' Track Coach at Paden City High School, effective the beginning of the 2012-2013 WVSSAC Season. (non-certified)

Kelli E. Goddard, approval for employment as Assistant Boys' Track Coach at Paden City High School, effective the beginning of the 2012-2013 WVSSAC Season. (non-certified)

Richard D. Price, approval for employment as 7th/8th Grade Girls' Track Coach at Long Drain School, effective the beginning of the 2012-2013 WVSSAC Season. (non-certified)

Teacher Reassignments:

Grant approval for mutual agreement pursuant to West Virginia State Code 18A-4-7a(p) "where the total number of classroom teaching positions in an elementary school does not increase from one school year to the next, but there exists in that school a need to realign the number of teachers in one or more grade levels kindergarten through six" for the 2013-2014 school year:

Long Drain School: Janet M. Tennant from first grade to fourth grade

New Martinsville School: Laura A. Barcus from Kindergarten to second grade

Paden City Elementary School: Deborah L. Allen from first grade to fourth grade

Grant approval for mutual agreement pursuant to West Virginia State Code 18A-4-7a(q) "when the total number of classroom teaching positions in an elementary school needs to be reduced, the reduction shall be made on the basis of seniority with the least senior classroom teacher being recommended for transfer; and when a specified grade level needs to be reduced and the least senior employee in the school is not in that grade level, the least senior classroom teacher in the grade level that needs to be reduced shall be reassigned to the position made vacant by the transfer of the least senior classroom teacher in the school without that position being posted: Provided, that the employee is certified, licensed or both and agrees to the reassignment" for the 2013-2014 school year.

Paden City Elementary School: Barbara G. Slider from fifth grade to sixth grade

Routine Matters:

Out of State Trips:

Sara Grimm, president of the Valley High School Band Boosters, and Anna Watson, president of the Hundred High School Band Boosters, were given approval for their band students, band directors, and chaperones to travel to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., June 4-7. This trip is funded through each schools' Band Boosters, fundraisers, and student fees.

Angelle Copeland was given approval to take the seventh and eighth grade New Martinsville School Band students to Kalahari Water Park in Sandusky, Ohio, on April 8. This is funded through student fees.

Kim Gongola and Jan Emch, senior advisors at Magnolia High School, were permitted to take the Magnolia Senior Class to Washington, D.C., on May 5-6. This trip is funded through school funds.
