Valley 77, East Richland 63
Lumberjacks Triston Kocher and Trey Street teamed to score 40 points to lead Valley to a 77-63 victory over East Richland Jan. 31 at Ohio University Eastern.
The 'Jacks built an 18-15 advantage to open the first period and went into the locker room on top 35-27.
In the third period, both teams were lighting it up, as 17 baskets found the bottom of the net, including three from downtown. However, it was the Lumberjacks who outscored East Richland 23-19 to take a 58-47 lead with one quarter to play.
Seven different Lumberjacks scored points in the fourth period, while only four Richland kids netted baskets, garnering the win for Valley.
Kocher pulled down 12 rebounds to go with his team-high 22 points for a double-double, while Streets tacked on 18 markers to lead the 'Jacks to their sixth win of the season.
Hayden Lancaster tallied 10 points and hauled in eight boards, while dishing off a game-high six assists. Jack Wells contributed nine points and cleaned the glass with 10 rebounds, while Tyler Hayes netted six points and made a game-high six steals.
In addition, Troy Hubbard and Peyton Palmer each provided four markers.
With the inclement weather playing havoc with H.I.T. games and regular season matchups postponed it is unclear when it will be made up. But, it's safe to say they will play their third H.I. T. outing in Summersville Saturday morning, either at 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.
Valley 39, East Hardy 70
Hayden Lancaster scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds, and made two assists, but it wasn't enough as East Hardy knocked off the Valley Lumberjacks 70-39 in the second round of the Hometown Invitational Tournament Jan. 28 at East Hardy High School.
The Lumberjacks scored in double figures in the second and fourth periods, while only scoring six and eight points in the third and first quarters, respectively.
Troy Hubbard and Triston Kocher each netted six markers, while Tyler Hayes tacked on a pair of deuces. In addition, Peyton Palmer, Tucker Cain, and Joey Preat each tallied a deuce and Trey Streets hit free throw.
