Area Cheerleading Squads To Compete In OVAC

The 22nd Annual OVAC Cheering Competition will be held on Saturday at WesBanco Arena in downtown Wheeling. Twenty-nine schools will compete in five divisions.

Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and the competition begins at 9:30 a.m., with tickets at $6 for adults and $5 for students.

The schools competing are as follows: Class 1A-Beallsville, Bishop Donahue, Madonna, Paden City, St. John and Valley; Class 2-A-Bridgeport, Shadyside, Steubenville Catholic, Toronto and Wheeling Central; Class 3A-Barnesville, Bellaire, Linsly, Magnolia, Monroe Central, River, Tyler; Class 4A-Buckeye Local, Martins Ferry, Oak Glen, St. Clairsville, Steubenville, Union Local and Weir; Class 5A-Brooke, Edison, John Marshall and Wheeling Park.

Defending champions in each division are: Class A-Bishop Donahue; Class 2A-Linsly (who has moved to 3A this year); Class 3A-Tyler; Class 4A-St. Clairsville; and Class 5A-Brooke.

Each school will perform a three-minute open routine that may include, cheer, dance, and tumbling. The morning session will include Class-1A, Class-2A and Class-3A performances, followed by awards.

The afternoon session of Class-4A and Class-5A will begin at approximately 1:45 p.m. and conclude with awards around 3:30 p.m.
