Eagle Grapplers Pin Linsly In Dual

By Staff | Jan 16, 2013

The Magnolia Wrestling Team opened a dual match with The Linsly School Jan. 10 with a pair of pinfalls by Gage Deem (150 lbs.) and Garrett Woofter (160 lbs.) and finished the match with a pin by J.T. Stillwagoner (132 lbs.). Paden McConaughey (145 lbs.) won a forfeit to help claim a 42-33 victory inside the MHS HammerDome on Senior Night.

Deem started off the match with a solid performance, disposing of his Cadet opponent in the first round, while Woofter – facing a huge deficit – turned the tables and capped off the exciting match with a pin.

Two pins by Linsly in the next two matches had the match all tied up, but Jared Wright (195 lbs.) came on strong and won by a pinfall early in the first period to put the Eagles back on top.

However, Linsly won the next match, setting up the heavyweight match with the Eagles’ Alex Newman and Chuck Chuckwudie. Both wrestlers attacked each other with everything they had. But, the Eagles’ high-flying Newman saw an opening and put down his 285 pound opponent for a cover and pin to put Magnolia back on top to stay.

To close out the bout, the Eagles’ Doug Riter (113 lbs.) picked up a win with a forfeit before Stillwagoner and McConaughey finished with victories.

Magnolia will travel to the annual OVAC tournament in Wheeling Jan. 17-19.
