The Valley Lumberjacks outscored the previously undefeated Paden City Wildcats 34-23 in the second half to gain a hard-fought 64-57 victory in Pine Grove Dec. 28.
The Wildcats raced out to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter, but from this point on it was all Valley, who outscored their guests the rest of the way to avenge an earlier defeat.
Trey Streets and Tyler Hayes combined for 31 points, including three triples, while Jack Wells earned a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds, to lead the Lumberjacks.
In addition, Hayden Lancaster and Tristen Kocher tallied nine and seven points, respectively, while Jordan Anderson cashed in on a basket from beyond the arc. Ryan Lemley and Troy Hubbard each tallied a deuce.
Zach Heasley paced the Wildcats with 16 markers, including a threeball, while Luke Cooper and Drew Bidwell evenly split 24 markers. Kennedy Cain followed with 10 points, while Brandon Cross and Logan Caroll tallied five and two points, respectively.
Paden City made 23-47 free throws, while Valley netted 16-23.
Valley will open the new year at home against the Cameron Dragons at 6 p.m., while the Wildcats will look to upset Williamstown at Bob Burton Gymnasium Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.
