Hundred, Paden City, And River All Win Games During Week

HHS 53, West Greene, 41

The Hundred Hornets' Kirk Shriver tallied a game-high 16 points, including a pair of three pointers, and grabbed eight boards to lead his team to its first victory - a 53-41 victory over West Greene Dec. 12 inside the Hornets Nest.

Teammate Greg Stewart tallied his first double-double, scoring 10 points and hauling in 10 rebounds, while point guard Chris Varner added six points that included a basket from beyond the arc. Varner also delivered multiple assists. Holden Moore and Brandon Armstrong scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

"We came out and shot the ball really well in the first half. Something that we haven't done so far this season," said Hornet Head Coach Ryan May. "It was nice to get our first win, now we can build on that."

In the junior varsity game, Hundred was playing for the first time this season and defeated West Greene, 34-17. Hunter Goddard was the top scorer on the night, scoring 11 points, while Davin Copeland and Brandon White equally split 14 points. Andrew King knocked in four markers, while Greg Jones and Hunter Goff each netted a deuce, and Joe Mars a free throw.

The Hornets played at Paden City Tuesday with results unavailable at press time. Next they will host the Cameron Dragons Dec. 22 with the junior varsity getting underway at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow.

PCHS 63, E. Richland, 18

The Paden City Wildcats limited the debuting East Richland to single digit scoring in every period in winning, 62-18, Dec. 14 at Ohio University Eastern.

Paden City claimed an 11-3 advantage, before heading into the locker room with a 30-7 lead. The 'Cats put up another 19 spots in the third, while East Richland tallied nine points. Paden City closed out the game with a 13-2 run to gain the nod.

Drew Bidwell led all scorers with 13 markers, while Kennedy Cain netted 12 points, including a perfect 4-4 from the charity line. Cain also added seven rebounds and swiped two. Zach Heasley was the third double-digit scorer for the Wildcats, tallying 10 points and making three assists.

Brandon Cross netted six markers while hauling in a game-high 12 rebounds. Levi Meadows drained a threeball, a deuce, and a charity toss, while Luke Cooper knocked in a pair of deuces and a free throw.

Logan Carroll and Kane Pyles each netted two baskets, while Deven Price went bombs away from beyond the arch.

After a matchup with Hundred on Tuesday with results unavailable by press time, the 'Cats will host Harmon Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Bob Burton Gymnasium.

RHS 55, Caldwell, 51

River's Brett Price tallied a season-high 30 points that included six bonus bombs to lead the 3-1 Pilots to a 55-51 victory over the Caldwell Redskins at R.L. Potts Gymnasium Dec. 14.

The Pilots forged ahead 19-17 after one period, but the Redskins would outscore the Pilots in the second period to take a 31-28 lead at the break.

In the third period, the Pilots tied the game at 40 with eight minutes remaining in regulation.

Price put the Pilots ahead 49-44 midway through the fourth quarter with his sixth trey.

But, Caldwell stayed close on back-to-back baskets. However, after a River timeout, Jordan Indermuhle rebounded a missed shot and banked home the ball while being fouled. His ensuing free throw bumped the count to 52-48.

After a pair of Redskin charity tosses, they would sink the front end of a bonus situation to draw their team to within one, 52-51, with 42.1 seconds on the clock.

The Pilots' Chad Isaly was fouled with 28:8 remaining and calmly dropped in both ends of a 1-and-1 for a 54-51 lead. Then Indermuhle rebounded a missed shot and was shoved to the floor, which drew an intentional foul call and sealed the deal with 6:5 second left in the game. He hit one of two free throws for the final tally.

Price led all scorers with 30 points that included six baskets from beyond the arc, while Jordan Indermuhle netted a double-double, 11 rebounds and scored 10 points.

In addition, Cody Caldwell tallied nine markers, while Islay, Matt Marconi, Eric Dierkes, and Kameron Brown each contributed a deuce.

After a game with Bridgeport Dec. 18, the Pilots will travel to Hiland Dec. 22 and will then host Buckeye Trail Dec. 26 with both games set for a 6 p.m. jayvee start.

RHS 48, Fort Frye, 47

River Pilot Kameron Brown calmly sank a pair of free throws with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to give the host Pilots a thrilling 48-47 victory over the Fort Frye Cadets Dec. 11 at R.L. Potts Gymnasium in River's home opener.

Fort Frye took a 15-13 lead in the first period, with Cody Caldwell leading the Pilot charge with a pair of baskets and a three pointer, while Brett Price netted a deuce and a threeball.

Behind the hot shooting of Eric Dierkes' 6-6 free throws, the Pilots closed the gap to 24-23 by intermission, assisted by Chad Isaly's 2-2 charity tosses and a Price two pointer.

In the third period, the Cadets extended their lead to 36-32. But, in the final period, the Pilots would toss in 7-10 charity throws, with Brown leading the way with 4-6 makes that included the game winner.

However, in the final minutes of play, Cody Caldwell drained a clutch go-ahead basket from beyond the arch. The Cadets, however, responded with a pair of freebies for a one-point Fort Frye advantage.

But, also in second half of action, Isaly nailed a pair of technical foul shots that spring-boarded the Pilots' fourth quarter rally.

Caldwell paced the Pilots with a team-high 13 points that included a trio of bonus bombs. He also grabbed six boards, while Isaly tallied 10 markers for the home-standing Pilots.

In addition, Price netted seven points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Brown and Dierkes each scored six markers.

Matt Marconi scored a deuce and a free throw. Evan Eggleston sank a deuce, while Jordan Indermuhle was limited to a free throw.
