Lady Pilot Cassidy McCullough torched the nets for a game-high 24 points to lead River to a 51-31 victory over the Lady Warriors Thursday evening at Buckeye Trail High School.
The Lady Pilots soared to a commanding 17-5 advantage and never looked back in winning its third consecutive game in double figures since opening the 2012-13 season.
Jensen Caretti cashed in nine points, while Landyn Ramsay netted eight points, and her sister Laken Ramsay swished a basket from beyond the arch. In addition, Emile Weaver tallied a three spot, while Leslie Young and Haylee Bowers each dropped in a deuce.
The Lady Pilots remained perfect on the season after scoring a 45-42 overtime victory against the Frontier Cougars Dec. 2 at Frontier Local.
After taking a dismal 6-5 lead after one period of play, the Lady Pilots netted 13 points while holding the Cougars to six markers to take an 18-12 lead with them into intermission.
River sank one more bucket than Frontier in the third period before the home team caught fire and tied it to send the game to overtime. In the OT period, River tallied 11 points, while its defense held Frontier to seven points, to gain the nod.
McCullough scored 14 markers, while Landyn Ramsay tallied 13 points, including 7-10 from the charity stripe, to led the Pilot charge. Laken Ramsay added seven points that included a bonus bomb, while Caretti tacked on six markers. Jones and Weaver each added a deuce, while Young swished a free throw.
Laken Ramsay and Caretti shared 24 points, but it wasn't enough as the Bridgeport Bulldogs came from behind to beat River 44-42 Monday night at R.L. Potts Gymnasium.
The Pilots held an eight-point lead midway through the third period, but the Lady Bulldogs chipped away at the Pilot lead before taking over late in the fourth period.
The Pilots had one last chance for the win, but a three-point basket with less than a second remaining missed its mark and Bridgeport took it home.
Weaver netted eight points, while Bowers and McCullough each contributed five points. The Pilots scored two more goals than the Bulldogs, but were only 3-9 at the line, while Bridgeport connected on 7-11 that proved to be the difference.
Ramsay sank two bonus bombs while adding five assists and making three steals. Caretti added nine boards while blocking three Lady 'Dog shots.
In the junior varsity tilt, Haylee Winkler's nine points and 10 rebounds paced the Pilots, who won 45-16.
The Pilots' next game against Frontier Local is set for Dec. 12 at Hannibal with the junior varsity game set for a 6 p.m. tipoff and the varsity game to follow.
