Drug Bust Made In Paden City

December 12, 2012
ALEX KING - For the Wetzel Chronicle , Wetzel Chronicle

One Paden City street was a great deal quieter on Thursday, according to residents and law enforcement officials following a drug bust the night before at 213 South First Ave.

The bust resulted in the arrest of David Jacobs, 22, for the delivery of a controlled substance. Jacobs was then transferred to the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville. Among items confiscated from his residence were marijuana, prescription medication, Suboxone, syringes, pipes, miniature scales, money and his cell phone.

Law enforcement present were Chief Michael Kelly and Patrolman J.D. Kelly of the Paden City Police Department, Corporal Spragg and his K-9 partner Titus of the Wetzel County Sheriff's Office, Corporal Bryan Owens of the Sistersville Police Department and two state police officers.

This evidence was confiscated from 213 South First Ave. in Paden City during a Dec. 5 drug bust.

"I see more arrests coming out of this bust," said Patrolman Kelly, highlighting the importance of the suspect's cell phone.

"We would like to thank the other agencies for their assistance," added Chief Kelly.

According to him, several reports of suspicious activity by the newly formed neighborhood watch group as well as other members of the community helped in obtaining the search and arrest warrants.

"People pay attention to stuff and it helps us clean up the neighborhood," he said.

"Traffic may have been worse than Route 2 at one time," said Ed Parsons, local resident and one of the neighborhood watch organizers, regarding South First Ave. "It's a whole lot quieter now."

The Paden City Police Department also made an arrest on Nov. 29 of Richard Mylar, 46, of 133 South First Ave., Paden City, who is being charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance.

Relatedly, the department will have a new officer soon, pending council approval.
