Board Approves Personnel Changes

The following personnel changes and routine matters met the Wetzel County Board of Education’s approval at their regular meeting, Nov. 5. This meeting was held at Magnolia High School, due to LSIC presentations by both MHS and New Martinsville School.

Retirements:

Cora E. Bowers, acceptance of retirement from position as Supervisory

Teacher Aide, effective June 30, 2013.

Resignations:

Vicki L. Cecil, acceptance of resignation from position as Countywide Substitute Teacher Aide, effective immediately.

Michael E. Fluharty, acceptance of resignation from position as 7th and 8th Grade Boys’ Basketball Coach at Short Line School, effective Oct. 11.

Carolyn R. Hizer, acceptance of resignation from position as Science Teacher at Valley High School, effective Oct. 27.

Logan A. Miller, acceptance of resignation from position as 7th Grade Girls’ Basketball Coach at SLS, effective immediately.

Michael S. Pierce, acceptance of resignation from position as Assistant Wrestling Coach at NMS, effective immediately.

Jason T. Stoneking, acceptance of resignation from position as 8th Grade Girls’ Basketball Coach at Paden City High School, effective immediately.

Pariksit Spicher, approval for employment as Graduation Coach at VHS, three half-days per week, funded through VHS S3 Grant monies, and will remain halftime English Teacher at VHS and half-time Countywide Substitute Teacher, effective Nov. 7.

John R. Cain, approval for change in assignment from Countywide Substitute Custodian to half-time Evening Custodian at PCES (682/B), 228-day contract, and will remain half-time Countywide Substitute Custodian, effective Nov. 7.

Joe O. Flesher, approval for change in classification from Custodian II (682-B) at NMS to Custodian III (683-C) at NMS, effective Sept. 7.

Leave of Absence:

Approval of request from Meredith L. Pilant for an unpaid medical leave of absence from her position as Kindergarten Teacher at SLS, effective beginning Nov. 26.

Out of State Trips:

Approval of request from Janie Robinson to attend the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) National Convention in Las Vegas, Nev., Nov. 15 and Nov. 16. This trip is funded personally and through New Martinsville School.

Approval of request from Paul C. Huston, II for Johanna Lemasters, Sharon

Snider, Janet Park, Marla Larue, and Karen Longwell to attend the NTCM Conference Nov. 28-30 in Chicago, Ill. Funded through Title I funds.

Approval of request from Jeff Sands to take the Hundred High School Chorus and chaperones to Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, Pa., to see ‘Celtic Women’s Christmas Concert’ with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, on Dec 3. This trip is funded through Hundred High School Choir fund.

Wetzel County Schools:

Approval of request from Anthony Boyd for his children, Justin, Tessa, and Donald Boyd, to be released from Wetzel County Schools (New Martinsville School and Magnolia High School) to continue attending Tyler County Schools for the remainder of the 2012-2013 school year.

Request to Attend

Wetzel County Schools:

Approval of request from R.J. and Stacey Morgan for their son, Levi Joe Morgan, to attend Wetzel County Schools (Paden City High School) for the remainder of the 2012-2013 school year, pending release from Tyler County Schools.

Approval of request from Shawna Staley for her daughter, Jonaya Staley, to continue attending Wetzel County Schools (New Martinsville School) for the remainder of the 2012-2013 school year.

Miscellaneous:

Approval was given to declare the following surplus property and sold by sealed bid: 1999 Blue Bird, 77 passenger Bus #40

Also, approval was given to Fay Pritchard for the New Martinsville School PTO to use the NMS gym, cafeteria, and K-1 gym for the purposes of their fall festival on Oct. 27.

The first reading of the new policy, JS: Wetzel County Schools Service Animals and Other Animals in the Schools presented by Superintendent Diane Watt was approved by the board, as well as the first reading of the new policy, GCBDA-A: Leaves of Absence by Jay Yeager. The first reading of the revised policy, IKA: Assessment/Reporting Systems Policy presented by Tammy Wells, was also approved by the board.
