A special meeting of the Wetzel County Board of Education was held Nov. 15. After the opening, pledge of allegiance, and invocation, an executive session was held "for the discussion of student discipline matters . . . Level Three Citizens Appeal . . ."

After approximately an hour-long discussion behind closed doors, the board reconvened and voted to uphold the decisions and findings of the Level 2 hearing and deny the Level Three Citizens Appeal. No further explanation was given.

In another matter, the board approved the resignation of William D. Aberegg as Countywide Substitute Teacher. Aberegg was recently elected to fill the board seat vacated by the death of Willie Baker.

Chris Baker, who had been filling his late father's Board of Election seat until the election, received a certificate of appreciation from President Mike Blair, on behalf of the board. Board Vice President Robert Patterson wished Baker "good luck" and expressed the board's pleasure having him serve as a member. Baker thanked the board, stating "I have appreciated, and have been honored, to take my father's spot."

Superintendent Diane Watt confirmed that the newly elected board member has met the requirements and will take the Oath of Office at the next regularly scheduled board meeting, Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m., in the board office.
