Valley Lumberjack Spencer Mason rushed for 113 yards, but it wasn't enough, as Doddridge County up-ended the Lumberjacks 35-6 at Tom West Field in Pine Grove Oct. 19.
Valley speedster Trey Streets capped off an impressive 54-yard 10-play drive with a nine-yard TD scamper for the game's first points. But, it was all down hill from there as the Bulldogs would score five times to gain the nod.
Smith followed Mason with 47 yards, while Liam Midcap added nine yards on three carries to pace the Lumberjacks, who were playing without their starting quarterback, Tristen Kocher, who was nursing an injury.
Valley's Hayden Lancaster pitched in as quarterback and completed three passes, all to Streets, for 19 yards. Doddrige had only three more first downs than Valley's 13, while the Lumberjacks played penalty free, compared with three penalties for the Bulldogs that cost them 25 yards of real estate.
Defensively, Wesley Dulaney made 11 tackles, while Midcap and Lancaster both brought down six Bulldog ball carriers.
Things will get interesting in Pine Grove Friday night, as Paden City comes to Tom West Field. One of the two teams will emerge with only its second victory of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
