By Staff | Oct 10, 2012

Stephen “Rogo” Rogalski scored on his first two touches and hauled in another to lead Magnolia to a 51-12 victory over the Weir Red Riders, Oct. 5 in Weirton.

Magnolia took the opening kickoff and, on its second play from scrimmage, returned it 60 yards for a quick 7-0 lead after the Clemens Raitmayr conversion kick.

On a third and long, the Tanner Hanna-to-Ryan Walton combination made good on a 16-yard first down. Drew Keller moved the chains twice on long runs and Rogalski would cap off the drive with a 28-yard end-around for another touchdown.

After another three-and-out, the Hanna-to-Walton hook-up worked to perfection, and Keller motored his way to down to the Riders’ 22-yard line, whereupon Kage Rohde went the distance to put Magnolia up 21-0.

The Big Blue defense shut down the Riders once more and, after a Hanna-to-Keller reception, Hanna hooked up with Rogalski on a 40-yard TD pitch-and-catch to give the visiting Eagles a 28-0 lead after one period of play.

On the first play from scrimmage in the second period, Kyle Ritz sacked the Rider quarterback in the end zone for a safety. After the ensuing kick, it was all Keller and the offensive front line. On the fourth play of the drive, Keller plowed his way into the endzone for another Magnolia tally.

The Eagles’ defense held and forced another Weir punt. Yale Wetzel entered the game for Magnolia and, on his first carry, stomped his way for 10-yards and a Magnolia first down. The Eagles got the pigskin to midfield before the Riders’ defense held tough and forced the Eagles to punt for the first time.

The Riders got on the board with a nifty 71-yard run to break the ice late in the second period. But, after the ensuing kick, it took the Eagles offense one play to score. This time it was on a Rhode 32-yard run that ended the half with the Big Blue ahead, 44-6 lead.

The Riders failed to score in their first series of the third period, but after productive runs by Keller and Rohde, Rohde would take it to the house for an an apparent touchdown, but a Magnolia infraction wiped away the score. However, the Blue Eagle front line – keyed on a block by Keller – sent Rohde, into the endzone for the Eagles’ final touchdown of the game.

For the rest of the game, Magnolia’s JV team came off the bench to be saluted by a 14-yard Rider touchdown, but the jayvees picked up positive yardage on the ground by Wetzel and Tyler Anderson.

The Eagles gained 315 yards and scored six touchdowns on 25 carries, while completing 4-6 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Leading the way offensively was Rohde, with 93 yards and three touchdowns, while Keller gained 83 yards and scored a TD. Rogalski scampered twice for 81 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

In addition, Wetzel and Anderson tallied 17 yards and 11 yards, respectively, while and Hunter Brill and Jared Kacor got touches as well.

Hanna was 4-6 for 83-yards and a score, with Rogalski leading the way with one grab for 35 yards and a touchdown. Keller hauled down one pass for 17 yards, while Walton tacked on 31 yards on two snatches.

The Blue Eagles shot themselves in the foot with seven penalties for 55 yards lost. The Riders got the flag only twice for 10 yards lost.

The Eagle defense held the Riders to no first downs in their first five offensive series, and gave up only five for the game.
