‘Cats Drop Homecoming Tilt

The Paden City Wildcats met up with a determined Cameron squad on Friday night at Berger Field, allowing the Dragons to score 26 points in the first period of play to take a decided lead in the game, and eventually the win, 40-18.

Sophomore Brandon Cross livened up the homecoming crowd on hand early in the first quarter when he scooped up a fumble and took it 90 yards for a Paden City touchdown.

Also making the highlight reels for the Green and White were quarterback Zach Heasley, running in one yard for six points and Kennedy Cain, catching a 52-yard pass for six more.

The ‘Cats gained 53 rushing yards and one touchdown on 30 carries to Cameron’s 297 yards on 48 carries. Paden City accumulated 107 passing yards for a total of 160 positive yards in the game. Cameron achieved 189 passing yards for a total of 486 yards.

Heasley completed nine of 18 passes in the contest for the home team. He was intercepted once and threw one touchdown.

Offensively, Craig Allen rushed five times for the Green to earn 52 yards; Brandon Cross carried the ball 13 times to collect 17 yards; and Drew Bidwell rushed three times for 15 yards.

In the receiving department, Cain caught three passes on the night and one touchdown; Cross had three catches for 16 yards; Allen, one catch, 13 yards; Bidwell, one catch, five yards; and Devon Price, one catch, three yards.

Defensively, freshman Logan Carroll led the team in tackles with 19, two for a loss and batted down one pass. Allen was credited with seven tackles; Cain, six tackles; Bidwell, six tackles; Willie Wilkinson, six tackles, three fumble recoveries; and Michael Wilcox and Luke Cooper each had five tackles on the night.

On Friday, the Wildcats will play host to Conotton Valley at Berger Field, with the game scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
