‘Jacks Crushed By C-Bees

Mason Rushes For 141 Yards In Loss

October 3, 2012
Wetzel Chronicle

Lumberjack Spencer Mason scored three touchdowns and rushed for 141 yards, but it wasn't strong enough for Valley to get by Clay-Battelle, who prevailed 56-28 in Pine Grove Sept. 28.

After losing their top two quarterbacks to injuries and falling behind, 56-6 in the third period, the 'Jacks scored 21 unanswered points to make the game respectable.

After replacing the injured Valley starting quarterback, Trey Street tallied the Lumberjacks' first points on a 63-yard keeper in the second period.

After gaining 123 yards and scoring a TD, Street was injured and took a seat next to Tristen Kocher, who was injured in the first period.

However, the 'Jacks would give the reins to its third-string quarterback, Hayden Lancaster, who handed it off play-after-play to Mason, who would score the game's final three touchdowns.

Mason and Street accounted for a total of 264 yards and four Lumberjack touchdowns, while T. C. Long added 55 yards. Collin Bates pitched in with 14-yards and Trey Smith added seven yards rushing.

Through the air, Kocher was 2-6 for 38-yards. Street landed 2-4 for 33-yards, while Lancaster connected on one pass for 10-yards and a two-point conversion pass to Troy Hubbard.

Chase West caught one pass for 30-yards, while Street hauled in a pass for 21-yards. Long caught a pass for 17-yards, as did Hubbard for 10 yards. Lancaster grabbed one pass for three yards.

Defensively, West made three tackles and caught an interception, while Peyton Palmer added five tackles and recovered a fumble. Brock Stackpole paced the 'Jacks with 10 stops, while Hubbard and Dustin Lowe made six and five tackles, respectively.

The Lumberjacks will try to turn things around when they take on Bellaire St. John at Tom West Field on Friday, Oct. 5 on Valley's homecoming night.
