Turnovers Doom Pilots

Four River Pilot turnovers at crucial scoring opportunities changed a close game into a 31-7 white-washing from Bishop Rosecrans Sept. 28 in Zanesville

Pilot Nick Asturi scored the team’s only touchdown on a one-yard plunge, while Colton Wright nailed the extra point kick.

Asturi led the Pilot ground game with 52 yards, while Cody Caldwell added 25 yards and Bailey Reusser tacked on 14 yards.

Through the air, Caldwell completed 8-17 passes for 121 yards and two interceptions.

Kameron Brown hauled in five Caldwell aerials for 106 yards, while Brok Cross and Dallas Necessary grabbed two and one pass, respectively.

Defensively, River’s Jonathan Stewart had a team-leading eight solo tackles. He assisted on five others, with four tackles going for loss of yardage. Asturi was on 11 tackles, with one tackle going for loss of yards, while Brown dropped 10 Rosecrans ball carriers, with one for loss of yardage. He also had an interception and batted down three Bishop passes.

In addition, J. D. Dotson had 10 tackles, two of which went for loss of yardage. Dotson also sacked the quarterback, while Cross decked eight Rosecrans ball carriers, with one for lost yardage.

The Pilots will lick their wounds and regroup to face the Bridgeport Bulldogs at Magnolia’s Alumni Field on River’s homecoming, Friday, Oct. 5. The game is set for 7 p.m.
