September 19, 2012
Wetzel Chronicle

The West Virginia Mountaineers made it two in a row, as they defeated Dukes of James Madison 42-12 Sept. 15 in the Washington Redskin Stadium in Washington, D. C.

Again, it was the Geno Smith show, as he connected on 34-39 passes for 411 yards and five touchdowns to break Marc Bulger's record by 38 yards and accumulating 8,191 career yards passing.

The Mountaineers scored on their first four possessions and piled up 569 total yards against the Dukes, while moving the chains 28 times. The great Mountaineer Sam Huff was honored at halftime.

Other notable WVU stats from the game were: Stedman Bailey with 173 yards on 13 catches and one touchdown; Tavon Austin with 113 yards and one touchdown on 11 receptions; and Shawne Alston, who accounted for 62 yards to lead the ground game.

In addition, Andrew Buie tacked on 31 yards and hauled in five passes for 90 yards.

The Mountaineers will host Maryland Sept. 22, before meeting their first Big 12 opponent, Baylor, on Sept. 29.
